Honoring the Past
Today, The Mill Keeper is a proud sponsor of Napa’s State Historic Park, Bale Grist Mill, which served as part of the early inspiration for the brand. The mill was established in 1849 by Dr. Edwin Bale, an Englishman and chief military surgeon to General Vallejo. A sudden death left his widow, María Ignacia Soberanes Bale, to become the new mill keeper. She successfully operated the mill and became a pillar of the early Napa Valley community. Inspired by the legacy of Soberanes Bale, The Mill Keeper Multi Vintage Chardonnay and The Mill Keeper Cabernet Sauvignon labels feature artwork that commemorates the female artisans who crafted some of the earliest wine in the Napa Valley.
Inspiring the Future
Our focus is to produce wine from an environmentally conscious winery and from vineyards with sustainable land management programs. Wanting to go a step further, The Mill Keeper is a proud sponsor of the National Parks Conservation Association. More than a century ago, visionaries with a passion for America’s national parks saw the need for a strong, independent voice speaking out on their behalf. With the help they receive, NPCA can support broader conservation, serving as anchors of larger ecosystems, pathways linking wildlife habitats, and catalysts for resource protection. They also work to protect national parks and communities from the causes and detrimental effects of climate change, advocating for climate solutions that protect parks and people.
